Extractions

Sometimes it is necessary or recommended to remove an entire tooth, crown and root. Tooth extraction may be needed due to severe decay, gum disease, overcrowding, or trauma that makes the tooth irreparable. It can also be performed to prepare for orthodontic treatment or to remove impacted teeth, such as wisdom teeth.

Patients should consult with UCSF’s Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery faculty clinicians for expert advice and treatment.
