Financing your dental education
The UCSF Student Financial Services Office provides tools, counseling, and resources to help you manage the cost of dental school. Most students rely on federal loans, but additional programs, scholarships, and support are available.
Scholarships and awards
School of Dentistry scholarships
About 10 merit- and need-based awards given annually, ranging from $5,000–$40,000. All admitted students are automatically considered.
Outside scholarships

Service-based funding

Receive tuition, fees, and stipend support in exchange for 2–4 years of service in underserved communities.

Get a fully funded education, stipend, and benefits through the Army, Navy, or Air Force with a service obligation of 3–4 years as an active duty dental officer.

Federal and state loan forgiveness programs are available, especially for graduates working in underserved regions.
Work-study positions
UCSF offers flexible, part-time work-study opportunities for students who qualify through financial aid. These positions provide extra income while allowing you to build professional skills and balance your academic schedule.
Housing subsidies
To help offset San Francisco’s high cost of living, UCSF provides subsidized campus housing options for eligible students. Students may apply to live in furnished apartments near campus for up to two years during their program.
